Avera Emergency & Family Services
Sioux Falls, SD
The Avera Medical Group Family Health Center is designed for convenient outpatient care and emergency services for the more than 45,000 residents of the Sioux Falls community living west of interstate 29. Prior to construction, the majority of available healthcare facilities were located east of I-29 and were not readily accessible.
This 3-story, 85,000 SF building is serving the needs of these residents, including primary care, internal medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, urgent care, optometry, physical therapy, on-site laboratory, radiology, and medical imaging services, and South Dakota’s first free standing, 24-hour emergency department.
The design communicates Avera’s commitment to high-quality, patient friendly environments and incorporation of the latest technology and modern trends in healthcare. The Family Health Center is clean, contemporary, inviting, and creates an environment that helps simplify the process for patients visiting their healthcare provider.
Materials and details were carefully crafted to create a feeling of something beyond a typical medical office building, and that of a health center the community recognizes as their premiere choice for health care.
"The clinic is helping to relieve some of the congestion off the main campus like 69th and Cliff did. That has worked really nice. There's so many new houses going up and young families, and this way we're able to offer a broad range of services over there'.'
—Lindsey Meyers, vice president of communications
Recent data also revealed 45,000 people living west of Interstate 29 were without close access to an emergency department. While the emergency department is contiguous with the rest of the clinic, independent stand-alone emergency rooms are becoming more prevalent across the country.
