Milbank, SD

The Northeast South Dakota Healthcare Foundation and Avera Health constructed a new 76,700 gsf freestanding replacement hospital and clinic facility on a 17-acre site in Milbank, South Dakota. Project goals focused around expanding and improving both inpatient and outpatient services and staff efficiency, incorporating current technology, and redefining the overall patient care environment to be safe, healing focused, patient-friendly, and with easy way-finding. All departments were planned to be updated from their current 1960’s facility to meet modern health care needs.

Community involvement was integral to the planning process through public focus groups, private sector donations, and City of Milbank infrastructure expansion assistance. The new facility is a representation of the community in it services, faith-based care delivery, and serves as a point pride for Milbank citizens.  To continue the strong relationship between the hospital and the community, the new facility included several features available for public use including the wellness center, meeting rooms and cafe.
